The Wonderful Mariposa Grove
A trip to Wawona is incomplete without exploring the amazing Mariposa Grove of giant sequoias. This well-secured grove houses over three hundred giant sequoias, some of which are over 2,000 years old.
The historical center is located roughly two miles from Yosemite’s south entrance. With the fact that this is the most famous destination outside of Yosemite Valley, their parking area tends to fill-up early in the morning. However, don’t worry, as when this happens, the park provides a free shuttle service operating out of Wawona.
People coming to visit Mariposa Grove will have a variety of options based on what they want to see and how much they want to hike.
The loop hike at this amazing center covers many of the most popular trees, like the Grizzly Giant. The perfect way to view the Mariposa Grove is on foot, though the trails up can be a bit steep for some people’s taste. Instead, you can take the open-air tram up to the top of the grove and walk or hike back down, stopping at all of the major trees along the way.
For adults, tickets are $25 and include an audio guide, half price for children of age 12 and below. The tram also stops at a museum, with a 10 minute break to allow you use the restroom, but you can stay longer to explore the museum and hop on another tram in the next 30 minutes.
